It is a combination of wax, wick and flame, the candle. Its representation in art is more than this. In the middle ages it represents meaningful, iconic and emotionally charged the volatility of life. Later, in contemporary art it is staged as an expression of perfect inner vision or as an aggressive sexual motif. It becomes itself an artistic object.
In more than 50 works by artists of the present, who take up and vary the motif candle in different ways, the exhibition shows the candle in art since 1965.
