Marcel Duchamp‘s Rotoreliefs

With interest in optics and the desire to represent movement, Marcel Duchamp repeatedly looked for other materials and media instead of color on canvas. In 1935 he published 12 colorful Rotoreliefs, which illustrate the principle of the opposite movement in an endless loop. The painted discs create hypnotic optical deceptions and the illusion of three-dimensional dynamic objects during rotation on turntables.
In addition to numerous mental rotations, the exhibition allows more spatial-physical looping experiences in an architecture course developed especially for the exhibition – from the “Ouroboros” octagon to a square, mirrored “Music Hall”.
